Several posts ago I said I would tell you how EFG came about; well now that I have given you some insight into my life over the past few years and how running has become a significant part of my life, I think I am now ready to explain. Back in the latter part of 2007, when I began running with West Coast Road Runners, I met a member who not only became a friend of mine, but who also presented me with a job opportunity. Christy Baker is co-owner of Runningskirts.com, an awesome family venture shared with her twin sister Cindy. Their unique brand of running skirts have caught the attention of thousands of female runners over the past four years and continue to grow increasingly popular. With their business slowly expanding, and Christy being aware of our pending move to Japan, she suggested that I consider selling their skirts in Okinawa. It seemed like the perfect idea at the time, and while we made a genuine effort to figure out the logistical side of things, we unfortunately ran into shipping and other complications which made it difficult to pursue. The appeal of selling womens’ sportswear however remained with me and after receiving numerous enquiries about the availability of running skirts for young girls, I realized that I could potentially create a line of sportswear specifically for this younger age group. The clothing options for girls (and foreigners in general) here on Okinawa are fairly depressing as Japanese clothes are typically too small, too short, or simply not the right style. So with that in mind, I set to work with the few resources I had available and put together the outifts that you can now buy on our website. Granted there are only three sets available at this time but as a Marine spouse with a limited budget I must work with what I have and given time and a lot of hard work and determination, I hope to offer a greater variety of clothing for all the young, motivated sportsgirls out there. As Michael Jordan said, “I can accept failure, but I can’t accept not trying.”
